The Gators opened up the season with a solid performance under the lights in a 8-4 win over the Boll Weevils in a rematch of the 2011 championship game. The Gators started off hot with a two run double to the center field wall by Lance Losinski to take an early 2-0 lead. A 4 hit, 3 run third added to the Gators’ 5-0 lead. Ryan Grady capped off the 5th with a 2 run bases loaded single to bring the Gators’ advantage to 8-0. The Gators’ defense let the Boll Weevils back in the game in the 6th committing 3 errors and giving up 4 unearned runs in the process bringing the score to 8-4 where the game would finish.
The story of the game was Gator rookie Cody Triscik on the hill. Triscik was unhittable through 5 innings only to have the Gators’ defense disappoint with 4 errors in his bid for a perfect game. He finished the game with 6 innings pitched and a dominating 15 strikeouts surrendering only 2 hits and no earned runs. Scott Taylor closed out the 7th inning with 3 strikeouts to end the game to solidify the win.
The Gators’ season record stands at 1-0 with the next game scheduled for May 21st at 7:00pm.
